The aroma of marjoram is sweet, spicy-floral, reminiscent of camphor, the taste is spicy, burning, thin and sweet.

In the Middle East, it is used as a seasoning, at the same time mixed with salt and sesame.

In Ancient Egypt, Hellas and Rome, the plant was valued as spicy, medicinal and decorative (for wreaths). In the XXI century, marjoram is used mainly as a spice, it is added to salads, soups, fish and vegetable dishes in fresh or dried form and with canning. The plant is also used for making liqueurs, puddings, sausages, aromatizing vinegar and tea. Essential oil is extracted from the above-ground part of the flowering plant.
